Evaluation
For this project the aim was to capture a one minute video using one of the four subjects that were on the brief, these were Friends of the Earth, Professional, Rant and Time and Place.
To display my work throughout the project I created a blog using Tumblr. My first task was to investigate into different uses of video in interactive media. I found appropriate examples on the Internet and documented them using screen grabs. We had to research into short films, viral marketing, advertising, promotional material, film trailers, user generated content, virtual reality tours, games and E-learning. Also whilst researching we had to identifiy the associated technologies used.
After the research we had to brainstorm ideas of the four subjects that were on the brief, this was to help us find out what topic we wanted to use to capture the one-minute film. To create a wider variety of ideas we had to chose two of subjects and then expanded on the using more in-deapth brainstorms and also idea generation techniques such as, word association.
To identify which idea we wanted to create we had to draw some sketch ideas, the ideas that I sketched was a rant about Cancer, and also a time lapse of the sun rising and setting. I sketched these two ideas and then uploaded them and annotated them on Tumblr. I then finally thought of my final idea that was, time and place which captures still and moving images of a set location.
I then sketched a detailed storyboard thinking out of the box and putting specific camera angles on to it to show what was going where. After creating the storyboard I scanned it into the computer to keep it on file and then I also posted it on to my blog. I then took the storyboard and created a production schedule and travelled to Conwy to capture my footage.
After capturing all of my footage I uploaded my content to Final Cut Express where I cropped and edited my films using special effects, transitions, and audio. I downloaded a relevant sound using the Internet, and then imported it into Garage Band where I edited it to the right length. I then exported the file to an MP3 format and then imported it into Final Cut. This helped me, as I was able to fade the music out at the end to create a good effect.
Overall I think that my final movie was good as it had a wide range of images and video content within it, but on the other hand I think that I could have improved my project by making it longer and using more vidoe content rather than still images. I liked this project an I really enjoyed the editing side of things but, I think that filming and capturing images isn’t my strongest point and I hope that I will develop on this throughout different projects and jobs.
