Video Editing

Today we started to work in groups to come up with ideas for the four Subject Themes; Time & Place, Rant, Professional and Friends of the Earth. We wrote them down and then picked two from each theme and wrote at least three ideas for each and each person wrote the start of the story, another person wrote the middle and the last person wrote the end of the story. Below is my groups ideas that we did.

Friends of the Earth:

• De-Forestation
  • Rain forest, Amazon
  • Picture of rain forest before & after
  • Habitats

We then went into detail for one of the ideas and we decided to go with the pictures of the rain forest before & after.

• Start filming full forest & show the start of trees getting cut - limited activity
• More bulldozers start to arrive.  Trees are falling everywhere.  Lorries come to collect the logs
• We start to have a birds eye view of the forest as it gets smaller.  We then end with a finished view of a empty flat land - nothing there & everything destroyed

• Global warming
  • Power stations
  • Ice melting
  • Pollution, rubbish, gases and cars

We then went into detail for one of the ideas and we decided to go with the power stations.

• Watching people as they come in and out of work, watch station as it starts up and the towers as they let out stream
• Start to see people looking into data, while stuff is burning burnt
• Lorries are coming in and out of the power station while we get an overview of the whole plant, we get an birds eye view of it changing

Time & place:

• Bleach
  • Time lapse of Horizon, Sun setting & rising
  • Film day at the beach
  • People playing Volleyball

We then went into detail for one of the ideas and we decided to go with the film day at the beach.

• Start to watch as the Sun rises.  People like lifeguards and early morning joggers start to arrive
• The day becomes more active as the Sun is up.  People start to arrive - playing volleyball, swimming, joggers, children making sandcastles, boats going past, Ice Cream machine and music and tides
• People start to leave the beach as the sun starts to set.  Couples cuddle up to watch the view and tourist take photographs and the day becomes dusk

• Zoo
  • Filming fish tank - Aquarium
  • Animals - Monkeys
  • Animal show - Parrot show

We then went into detail for one of the ideas and we decided to go with the monkeys.

• Introduced at normal speed
• Monkey show or day filmed of their activities.  Speed it up like a time lapse
• Audience clapping, people moving away - Pans out & fades

Rant:

• Customers
  • Help desk
  • Phone call - complaint
  • Rant about people with too much change

We then went into detail for one of the ideas and we decided to go with the phone call.

• Someone phones up and starts bitching down the phone
• We start to hear the staff’s monologue on how tired they are and how they don’t really care about the customer’s issues
• The staff just gets annoyed by the person on the phone and decides to hang up.  We then hear as the customer still complains on the phone despite being hanged up

Professional:

• Doctor
  
  • Entrance in/out of doctors
  • Waiting room inside - sounds of patients
  • Home emergency call

We then went into detail for one of the ideas and we decided to go with the waiting room.

• Normal speed at first, people walking in & sitting down - speeds up after that
• Middle full speed voice over saying names, what doctor or the telephone in the background
• Shows people leaving - gets less crowded.  Staff start to clear up and leave, cleaner hovering.  Lights are turned off for the end
