RealPlayer is a closed source cross-platform media player by RealNetworks that plays a number of multimedia formats including MP3,MPEG-4, QuickTime, Windows Media and multiple versions of proprietary RealAudio and RealVideo formats.
AAC
It was developed by the MPEG group that included Dolby, Fraunhofer, AT&T, Sony and Nokia. These companies were involved with the developments of other audio codecs such as MP3 and AC3. AAC is started its race to become more used than MP3 and the reason behind this is because AAC has a improved compression while also providing a higher-quality audio with smaller file sizes.
Codec
Codec is short for Coder-decoder. Basically most audio and video formats make use of some type of compression. This is to prevent the file sizes from being too big when stored. Audio and video files would be compressed with a certain codec for example, a .mov file or a .flv file, when saved and then when played back would be decompressed. They can also be used to compress streaming media so its possible to broadcast live audio or a video clip while using a broadcast connection.

MP3 files can be played on software like Windows Media Players or iTunes and also on hardware like the ipod and mobile phones.

This is a file format for Quicktime movies. It is a container file which can contain a variety of tracks. Each track would store a certain type of data of which would be audio, video, effects or text.
